Hi Freya,
I would recommend creating holders for your shipping containers in the Locations module. Do you have standard shipping containers? You can enter in dimensions of the container and other info specific to that container. If your museum has a truck, you could also create a holder for the truck.

I like how National Museum of the American Indian handled their holders and locations. I'm partial because I came from there.

It sounds like you will or have a barcoding system in place. Is that right?
