where is the documentation to add a user?
Category: EMu Administration
Forum: EMu Admin

First, the user needs an account on Linux.  Then you need to create the proper registry entries in EMu. EMu needs to know which groups this user belongs to and any other permissions.  At minimum all you need is one EMu registry entry, proving the group already exists.

Key 1 = User
Key 2 = username, i.e Tom Jones
Key 3 = Group
Value = name of group Tom Jones is part of, i.e Singers

User
Tom Jones
Group
Singers

Searching by Import Identifiers
Category: Using EMu
Forum: Searching

I believe you will have to search in the Import Identifier field on the Admin tab for all records using \*
This will find all records with an Import Identifier.  You can sort by Import Identifier and select summary.  This may take quite a while depending on your system, number of records, and whether you have added Import Identifier to your null index setting in the registry.

When importing synonyms the currently accepted taxon does not update the All Synonyms tab.  Has anyone discovered a way to import synonyms and update the Currently Accepted taxa attachments?
Bill
UPDATE: Our current solution is to use TinyTask windows app.  This is not optimal, but it did automate the process, albeit without safeguards.

Problem with adding URL links into MultiMedia in EMu
Forum: Multimedia

I am having the same issue.  This CSV does not import.

MulDocumentType,Multimedia,MulTitle
U,http://zotero.org/users/4939919/items/KKSWS4TU,Zotero Record
We are using EMu 5.1
thanks
Bill

UPDATE: Header should be MulIdentifier, not Multimedia.
Thanks

Dave,
Thanks! I was wondering if implementing a table was a possibility.  Glad to know that's one option.
Bill

We have one old taxonomic name which now represents two new taxonomic names (it split).  Therefore, the old taxonomic name "Currently Accepted ?" = No, but we want to put two values in the "Currently Accepted Name".  What are some solutions?
Thanks

Barbara,
We use SAP Crystal Reports 2016 Support Pack 2 version 14.2.2.1975.  It didn't require anything more than to change .rpt properties "opens with" to new version of CR.  We upgraded from CR 2008.
Bill

Crystal Reports 2016 uses a barcode font that EMu no longer supports.  Does anyone know how to use a barcode font in Crystal Reports that still works with EMu?  The error we receive is: UFL 'u25azalea.dll' that implements this function is missing.

The barcode only fails when run through EMu reports.

Thanks
Bill

Solution: download the free Archon Code 39 barcode.  Install.  Create a formula field: "*"&(ToText({ecatalog_csv.SpMinCatNo}, 0, ""))&"*"
Use Archon Font. The Archon font must be installed on all user machines.

Beth,

First, create a csv file that contains one column with values 1,2,2,3,3,3,4,4,4,4,etc. You can use the Excel function: A2+(OFFSET(A3,A2*-1,)=A2).
Make this file read-only, otherwise the reporting process deletes the file each time it's run. Place the file in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\KESoftware\Reports\esites (or whichever report folder requires the repetition).
In Crystal add the csv and link it to your report table (from the csv to your EMu table's "number of labels" field).
In the design all you have to do is place the field from the csv into your report.
(To make the csv read-only I found that checking read-only first, then going to advanced security and setting Traverse Folder, List folder, Read Attributes, Read extended attributes, and read permissions works)
I am certain this can be improved upon, but it works as described.  Contact me if you have questions or it doesn't give you the results you expect.

Beth,
Thank you for your input.  It gave me a good starting point.  What I finally did was create a simple read-only csv file, placed it in the local report folder(s), and linked my Crystal Report to that file to create repetition based on a value in an EMu field.  While it may not be elegant (and can be improved upon), it gets the job done, and is easy to set up.

Has anyone created a Crystal Report that duplicates the detail section based on a value in a field?  As an example, this CSV:
irn, Description, NoOfLabels
123, baseball, 2
124, football, 5
125, basketball, 3

I'd want baseball to print twice, football 5 times, and basketball 3 times.

In EMu if a field is type float it will not accept a comma (or anything other than a number). Does $ and comma display in EMu?  Or are the $ and comma appearing when you copy from EMu to Excel?  If the later, then Excel is making the change, not EMu.  Verify the cell in Excel is formatted for "general" or "number" without the comma. If I am misunderstanding what is occurring please get back to me.

Remove the comma?  Are you trying to insert '120,000.00 as you've typed it here?
(and remove the preceding ' mark)

In the past when this has happened it was because the back-end programming was incorrect (typo or other error).  The column was either mislabeled in EMu Report Properties or missing entirely.  In other words, the first thing I'd do is ask KE/Axiell to look into it.

You might want to use the TITLE registry entry to cause the missing field to appear.

I've found that pasting the IRNs from your first search into a new search with the additional criteria processes much faster than "additional search".  I also realize this is a very old post.

How are you approaching specimen Latitude and Longitude?

Mike,

Your opinion is correct, as far as Entomology goes.  And the normalisation is beneficial if staff follow the correct procedures. Unfortunately, our data is mostly legacy from old databases, and the only trap information collected was "type of trap".  So "malaise trap" from a particular site could be any of a number of different malaise traps. Clumping them in a collection event gives the false impression they were collected in the same trap (maybe they were). Therefore, to acquire a list of specimens collected together we merely run a search on date and trap and locality.

New data may include trap IDs which helps clarify whether the specimens really were found in the same trap. So "Malaise Trap 313" on September 1, 2014 will give us the same results as a collection event.  Again, it was a choice we made to make data entry much easier for staff even though we lose a little on normalisation.  And to be honest, no one has ever requested that kind of trap report.

How are you approaching specimen Latitude and Longitude?

Mike,

We tested Collection Events with entomology and found it was unwieldy for the amount of data we inserted in the module.  Other departments dismissed Collection Events immediately because it didn't add enough to warrant the increased data input complexity.  In most cases (mammalogy, ornithology, entomology, etc) we've placed collector and date collected information in the catalog module (as Tom has with Ornithology).  However, we use esites for the remaining locality data, and ignore ecollectionevents.  Our reason is chiefly to make EMu as easy as possible to learn and use. In fact, esites' Precise Location is sometimes placed in catalog, which makes esites more akin to a gazetteer. On the other hand, in the case of marine invertebrates the sites module holds most of the information except specimen identification.

My query was to discover if other institutions were using the catalog module (or other method) to hold their latitude and longitude since the capture of such data is now fairly precise and common and is often attached to individuals. In the past Lat/Lon was a rough estimate and it made sense to drop a "center point" in a large geographic location.  But now specimens come in from a single "site" but each individual has its own lat/lon.

Thanks for the interest.  It helps me work through the options.

We use a windows terminal server for our few Mac users.  This alleviates the need for any virtual OS (you only need a browser).  However, we have few Mac users and those who are use EMu infrequently.

Thank you for the reply.  It's good to know your pattern is common.  It is also the way most of our departments handle site data. We do have a department that has no site data except coordinates, so we've placed it in ecatalogue for them.  But I'm debating the idea of splitting coordinates from esites if esites also has data.

Latitude and Longitude has become very easy to include with field data.  Which means (in some departments) almost every specimen has its own unique latitude and longitude, but the rest of the "site" information is identical/generic.  Are many of you placing Latitude and Longitude in ecatalogue or do you create a new site for each specimen with a different latitude and longitude?  What other approaches have you taken?  Thanks.

Is there a way to discover which records are using a particular lookup? In other words, if we open the Lookup Lists module, select a specific lookup list record, can we discover which records are using that lookup list?
