Excel Report, copying problem

Excel Report, copying problem

I am creating a valuation report onto Excel, but when i copy my data fields in EMu an error pops up with '120,000.00 is not a valid floating point value'. What does this mean? I can't copy my data because of it.

Any suggestions?

Re: Excel Report, copying problem

Remove the comma?  Are you trying to insert '120,000.00 as you've typed it here?
(and remove the preceding ' mark)

Re: Excel Report, copying problem

Thanks Bill, all the values have a comma for values above $10,000 which EMu has inserted itself, so I can't understand why it would change its mind and only for 120,000.00. I used a ' to quote the error in my description, its not a part of the error window that pops up.

Re: Excel Report, copying problem

In EMu if a field is type float it will not accept a comma (or anything other than a number). Does $ and comma display in EMu?  Or are the $ and comma appearing when you copy from EMu to Excel?  If the later, then Excel is making the change, not EMu.  Verify the cell in Excel is formatted for "general" or "number" without the comma. If I am misunderstanding what is occurring please get back to me.

Re: Excel Report, copying problem

Hello Elizabeth,

When pasting into Excel use Paste Special rather than Paste and select CSV from the Paste Specials box.  This will ensure the numbers are formatted as numbers or currency rather than text.

Re: Excel Report, copying problem

Thanks Bill and Gulhan for your help, I haven't even gotten to pasting in Excel yet, as thus far I am unable to copy from EMu because of this type float error, independent from Excel. The error appears after I select all and then hit 'copy' in EMu. There is no $ in our data fields, only numbers and commas and full stops as decimal points. EMu inserts the comma automatically, even if I do not, when entering numbers in the valuation fields, so I can't go back and remove them in any case.

Re: Excel Report, copying problem

Hi Elizabeth,

I can reproduce this issue and will escalate it to the developers and log it in jira.  It occurs for entries where the amount is greater than $999.  A workaround is to generate a CSV report via Tools>Reports and to then open up the csv file in Excel.

Regards,
Gülhan

Thanks Gulhan, I'll give that a go and refer back to jira.
