Adding columns to a list view?

Adding columns to a list view?

When creating or modifying a list view (View --> List Settings --> Change List Settings), the fields listed in the top list of the "Field Properties" window seem to be mysterious.

For example, the Hunterian KE Emu client lists the option to inlcude fields such as "Associated Deity" which don't seem to exist anywhere in our tables, or in the registry. Similarly, lots of useful fields which do exist in our tables don't appear in this list, and hence can't be selected to appear in lists.

Am I being dim here?  I'd have thought a "field chooser" list should be populated with actual fields which exist and are available. Surely the contents of this list can't be  hard-coded into the client?

If so, this seems a bit unsatisfactory.

Any advice/comments gratefully received

Re: Adding columns to a list view?

Hi John,

The field names that appear but that you can't find in your system are probably fields that are on tabs that have been hidden.

For the fields that exist and that you can't find in the list of fields, it's usually because a column in EMu can have different name for it's associated field(s). It should be in the list of fields but it's probably there under a different name than you expect. There is a registry entry called 'Title' that allows you to change the name for the fields in that list of fields. If you don't have access to the Registry module, your System Administrator can do that for you, or alternatively you can raise a JIRA ticket  for the fields you can't find and we'll be able to rename them for you.

Best regards

Hi Christelle

Ta for this.

> tabs that have been hidden.

Not quite sure what this means. The fields are on tabs that we use, even though the particular tab doesn't actually have focus when the field chooser is invoked.

> a column in EMu can have different name for it's associated field(s)

I know, although I probably wouldn't claim to fully understand!

> in the list of fields but it's probably there under a different name than you expect.

Possibly, although I'd have thought that searching the registry should reveal any names. Unless it's a security thing that I can't see them, but this would be a bit weird.

> don't have access to the Registry module

I do - I've got admin rights, and can also log in as emu root.

I'll investigate some more, and may get back to you!

Re: Adding columns to a list view?

Hi Christelle,

OK - I'm still puzzled.

It looks to me as though that the Title registry entries apply to the titles of columns seen in the list view itself, and not to the "picklist" of possible columns which are available to be inlcuded in a list view, when modifying or creating a list.

ie the marked box in this window:

Doing a registry search for "Title" in summary data, value, or key name doesn't produce any entries with "Associated Deity", and the word deity doesn't seem to occur anywhere in the registry that I can find.

What controls the fields, and the display names that appear as choices in the picklist box? Why are many columns not not displayed (eg ecatalogue column ColRelatedRecordsComments) here as being available for inlcusion in a List?

Hope this makes sense - sorry if I'm just being obtuse..

Re: Adding columns to a list view?

Hi John,

I've created a document Column-List-View.pdf which hopefully explains what you're after. Let me know if it still doesn't make sense.

Thanks

Hi Christelle

Ta for this. I haven't tried anything yet, but this looks very helpful. Will play with this again tomorrow..

Cheers John
