I am interested to know which museums are using the Thesaurus Module regularly. I had a discussion with KE staff recently about the possibility of creating a SIG for this module. Would there be interest?
Thanks!

Hi Will
We (Te Papa) use it regularly, and would be intersted in encoouraging and helping others to so the same, so we'd be intersted in a SIG.

Thanks, Adrian! I plan to post a number of comments here about the Thesaurus for discussion soon. I would be thrilled to have your feedback on those.

Hi Will,
The Powerhouse also uses the thesaurus module regularly, and has done so since we got EMu in 2003. Our Object Name Thesaurus has always been a key tool for our collection documentation. We are just in the process of making some changes to how we use the module. So we would also be very interested to be involved in a SIG and any thesaurus discussions.

Thanks, Susan! Was your Object Name thesaurus originally developed in the ARGUS Lexicon? I recall working with Powerhouse when I was at Questor. I would certainly be interested to know what issues you encountered in your migration to EMu, or are dealing with now. Some of the concerns I have with the EMu Thesaurus module relate to how the Lexicon was used in ARGUS and to user expectations (at Penn Museum) based on their custom Lexicon/Thesaurus built in that software.

The Henry Ford is new to EMu - what do you mean by SIG? A Special Thesaurus Group? If so, we are using the Thesaurus for Object Name, Materials, Topical Subjects, and plan on working to organize it to get the most out of it. We'd be very interested in being included in discussions.

Thank you, Leslie! Sorry. I should have spelled out the acronym. By SIG, I was referring to a Special Interest Group such as those that meet to discuss certain topics or features at the User Group events.

Hi Will - great idea. We (National Gallery of Australia) do not yet use the Thesaurus module much at all, but we plan to. We were very impressed with the work Te Papa have done in customising the Thesaurus module to enable contextual relationships in their online collection search, and have started heading down that same path. I'd definitely be keen to join the SIG.

Thanks, Mark. I would love to know more about the changes you are making to the Thesaurus Module. Is it just adding key joins like Te Papa or are you considering other development work as well? I have considered the key-join model too and wonder if it affects any existing functionality other than perhaps the ability to use Thesaurus for querying and data entry in fields that are not Thesaurus-controlled.

Hi all,
The agenda is full for this year's Global User Group and we won't be able to add a Thesaurus Special Interest Group. However we'd like to discuss this at the meeting in October to gauge interest in having Thesaurus Special Interest Group in future meetings.
Regards,
Christelle
