Web editing of EMu data

Web editing of EMu data

The Oriental Institute Museum is in process of installing EMu and migrating data.  Besides creating a web-based front end for read-only viewing, we are interested in talking to any EMu users who are entering and/or editing EMu data via a web browser, especially from the Macintosh platform.
Additionally, are any users running the EMu app on Macintosh hardware, either under Boot Camp or Parallels?

Re: Web editing of EMu data

Hi John,

Both the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo use Macs.

The Whitworth Art Gallery have been using Windows Terminal Services for about 10 years. They have a Linux server.

The Egyptian Museum have been using Parallels for the past two years.

Let me know if you would like more information.

Regards,

Christelle

Re: Web editing of EMu data

Hi John

We have Mac users, they use the Terminal Services solution also. Not a huge uptake on use though, as I don't think EMu is at all in line with the Mac 'aesthetic' or user-friendly style (and isn't that the real reason these people wnat to use Macs?)

Re: Web editing of EMu data

PS I'd be shocked if KE didn't have a web-based replacement/alternative to the current client somewhere on their business road map. I'm hoping we'll see that sooner rather than later.

Re: Web editing of EMu data

Christelle,

thanks you for your information regarding the use of Macintosh computers running EMu at the Whitworth Art Gallery and the Egyptian Museum.  It's nice to know some EMu users are using the Mac platform, as we had hoped to do for certain users and museum sections here at the OI.  I'll continue to post information we get from KE regarding the topic as we progress in our installation.

Thanks,

John

Re: Web editing of EMu data

Mark,

thank you for your information regarding the use of Macintosh computers running EMu at the National Gallery of Australia.  We had hoped for a wider range and larger number of Mac users of EMu, but we'll continue to talk to KE about our needs regarding the Macintosh platform, and web-based data entry and editing, and we'll post what we learn as we progress with our installation.

Thanks,

John

Thanks,

John

Re: Web editing of EMu data

We are running emu on Macs using a virtual pc application; I don't recall which but can find out from IT if you want. It works quite well; so far the most noticeable loss of functionality is that keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work.
