Change Management and Communications

Change Management and Communications

I wanted to share with you the viewpoints of two of our users.

James Maclaine was a key participant in our pilot project (migration of Fish data to EMu). He is a Fish Curator and has been using EMu for two years.

Dave Smith has been the Team Leader on our first full-blown implementation of EMu. He is a curator in our Mineralogy department and is a key player in our Mineralogy migration project.

Both these interviews are key components of my communications plan - more on that (if you are interested) another day.

I hope this is of interest to you.

Re: Change Management and Communications

Thank you. These viewpoints will be very helpful as I meet the reservations of endusers of eMu. I know they're all very nervous about the upcoming changes, especially since our last experience was less than successful. Fear of change is a powerful motivator for "digging in one's heels".

We have an opportunity to do it right this time, and I am collecting encouraging examples to present to my endusers when times get tough. There's always too much to do, too little time to do it in, and too little understanding of the time needed to complete an undertaking such as this. I wish it was as easy as paying someone to set the whole thing up and then just hit a button to make it run. Unfortunately, this is still the perspective of many here.

I hadn't thought before of asking people to keep journals of their experience with this project, but perhaps we'll give it a try. Then when I ask some of these telling questions down the road, they can look back and chuckle!
