february1_small.gifNewcastle Brown Ale, a product created through the skills of the brewer Colonel H. Porter and the chemist Archie Jones, first went on sale to the public in 1927 after three years of development and experimentation. In 1928 this bottled beer won the renowned Challenge Cup, an open competition for beers produced in Britain, Ireland and the Colonies. Today it is still one of the Northeast’s best known exports. This bottle held in the museum’s collection was one of the earliest off the production line.
