Why is EMu based on Texpress and not Oracle, SQL Server or another well-known DBMS?

One cannot separate a collections management system from the underlying DBMS. EMu derives its speed, flexibility and breadth of features because of Texpress. The largest collections institutions in the world, such as the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History, the United States Navy, the Minnesota Historical Society and the Canadian Museum of Civilisation, have determined that EMu's capabilities are unmatched in the collections management marketplace. Their decisions to acquire EMu were based on a thorough evaluation of not only EMu but also the underlying Texpress DBMS.

It is also important to note that as the developer of both EMu and Texpress, we employ a staff of computer science graduates who are able to address any problem that arises. There is no need to contact another company about DBMS problems. The potential for "buck passing" between the collections management vendor and the DBMS vendor is eliminated.
